Hello all! So this has been and is going to be a very eventful week!
Tuesday was my last day working for Expedia, and on Wednesday I went in to return my equipment. It was a really strange feeling and didn't hold the kind of relief I usually feel when moving from one job to the next - because this time I'm taking the leap into art as a career. I feel excited, nervous, giddy, and scared all at once. This is it for me...AHHHH! More on that later x]
BUT FIRST
I'm going to Zurich and I'm SO excited! I've never been outside of the US so this will be quite an experience for me
I plan to take a few hundred photos and come back with LOADS of inspiration. I'll have my tablet with me (not the drawing one, the one that can get online) so I'll probably be able to check messages periodically, but I may be MIA for the rest of January.

What is going on with this AI opt-out stuff
Every time I log onto the internet these days there's a new version of 'wtf is this'. DA rolled out a new AI generator thing, and though they claim your art won't be used in it, they've added a checkbox into all your deviations, which you have to go through painstakingly individually to opt-out of allowing third party AI tech from using your content. Here's the news: And here's an opt-out for specifically for prompt words? I don't know if the form includes artwork in storage or not, but if the image is on Deviantart's servers then I would suspect it's fair game too.

I really held out hope for this place as long as I could, but I'm done guys. Between these two updates by DA staff (posted at the bottom) I have no more faith that this is a true art site, and the days of the past where I came here to get lost in gorgeous exciting new art has clearly long passed. I've been on this site since 2004, so it's safe to say this one hurts. I cancelled my core membership and have already put the majority of my art into storage. I'll leave up enough pieces so people can recognize my work if they come across my gallery here but that's it. I won't be uploading any new work. Where I'll be Obviously my website will always be where you can find me and any connection to anything I have going on online. Bookmarking or saving my website will be the most straightforward. FurAffinity has taken a stance against AI images so that will be my main online gallery from now on. I am also on Twitter, but if that ends up going down then I'm also on Mastadon and Tumblr. If

I'm very over it. I get that it's fun because it's .0001% of the time and work it takes to actually make paintings like that, but I do not support it in the scope of it being presented as artwork that someone has fully created themselves. Posting mid-journey regurgitations as if you actually made the art, when it was trained on the art of actual artists (against their consent, in many cases) isn't a vibe. To clarify: a couple fun test pieces I don't care about, but I'm seeing entire galleries being flooded with nothing but AI. I come to visit Deviantart to see what fellow artists are up to and creating, and so I'm going to have to clean up my watch list a little for that.

I've finally re opened the shop again after it being closed for basically most of 2022! After getting back from SakuraCon and NorWesCon I gathered together all of my available originals and have listed them too. It's been a while since I posted any for sale, and it looks like many of the older pieces are moving a little faster now that I've risen my prices for any new originals.
